Coordinator of Elementary Faith Formation
Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Catholic Parish is comprised of about 2,800 participating families. An important part of our mission is to proclaim the Gospel of the Kingdom and form our young people as missionary disciples of Jesus Christ. We are looking to employ a Coordinator of Elementary Faith Formation who will help form our parish first to fifth graders. The primary means of formation are classes on Tuesday nights during the school year.
Skills, Experience, and Qualities
Faithful, practicing Catholic; Missionary disciple of the Lord Jesus Christ
Certification as a Master Catechist or equivalent knowledge
Some experience (volunteer or paid) teaching
Capable of advanced and detailed planning
Competent in using common office software applications and aptitude to learn OLMC specific data management and communication applications
Comfort and facility in public speaking
A positive attitude and a “we can find a solution” approach to problems
Duties
1. Administration
Calendars classes, sessions, and program events
Schedules sufficient facilities and technological resources
Communicates pertinent program information to volunteers and parents
Advertises program (Announcements, Emails, Flyers, etc.)
Carrys out Diocesan Safe Environment Program (No-Go-Tell)
Proposes annual budget and provides financial reports after major events (i.e. Vacation Bible School)
2. Elementary Faith Formation Classes
Recruits and trains Catechists
Provides for the needs of the Catechists (serves as a resource)
Provides substitute Catechists when needed
Serves as Main Catechist when needed
Plans, schedules, and presents parent meetings
Coordinates the Sacrament Program
Coordinates the Home Study Program
Works with homeschool families to receive First Reconciliation and First Communion
Provides classes and materials for students with special needs; parent meeting for material training
Organizes Family Nights, Family Prayer, Parent Nights, Book Checks, etc.
Serves as a resource to the Faith Formation Families
Provides some additional formation for unbaptized children to receive Sacraments on Easter Vigil
Ensures basic requirements have been met and children are well prepared for reception of sacraments
Prepares Reconciliation/Eucharist candidates for participation in liturgical and sacramental rites
Assists Pastor with celebration of communal First Reconciliation and First Communion Mass
3. Vacation Bible School
Selects, implements, and leads VBS program
Recruits and trains adult and youth volunteers
Oversees registration process
Orders sufficient program materials
Ensures for set-up, execution, and clean-up of VBS
Terms and Conditions
Hourly, $24-$34
Hours worked are between 10 and 19 hours per week
Must work on Tuesdays & Wednesdays and occasional Saturdays and Sundays; other workdays are flexible
