Job Description 

Accountable to:  Coordinator of the Ministry of Extraordinary Ministers of the Eucharist and Pastor 

Jesus Christ is truly present, body, blood, soul, and divinity under the appearance of the consecrated bread and wine.  In Holy Communion, he nourishes and strengthens the faithful and helps them become holy.  In Christ, the faithful experience communion with one another.    Parishioners and guests bring with them the burdens and joys of the week as they come to Mass.  EMs assist clergy with the distribution of Communion.  This is a solemn and reverent responsibility. This position requires a conscientious, responsible individual who is dedicated to service and has a special love for the Eucharist.

Responsibility: Extraordinary Ministers of the Eucharist assist the clergy in distributing Holy Communion at weekend and Holy Day Masses as scheduled.    

Time Commitment: 2-3 hours per month  

Length of Commitment: Minimum of 2 years 

Preferred Competencies/Experience 

  • Fully initiated Catholic, at least 17 years old, whose good qualities of Christian life, faith, and morals recommend them.

  • Physical ability to climb steps without a rail, while balancing a carried item; steady hands

  • Dependable, mature, responsible with a special love for the Eucharist

  • Definite sense of service and giving; Embraces the concept of obedience versus convenience in service.

Key Relationships:  Ministry Coordinator, Volunteer/Ministers, Parishioners and Guests/Visitors. 

  • Duties:
    Follow the dress code.

  • Volunteer to be scheduled at any weekend mass and special masses.

  • Communicate non-availability when asked (bi-monthly)

  • Report to the Sacristy at least 15 minutes before assigned Mass begins.

  • Find substitute if necessary and report to coordinator if you are unable to serve.

  • Sign in, determine assigned station, and direct any questions to the Leads.

  • Follow detailed instructions outlined in training materials.

  • Attend ministry meetings (usually twice each year).

  • Serve Communion with reverence and love.

  • Assist with purifying (cleaning) the vessels.
